The results revealed the presence of E. coli and coliform bacteria, indicating faecal contamination and raising concerns about possible sewage intrusion into groundwater. What appeared to be an odour problem turned out to be a potential public health concern! When we thoroughly investigated the water, we were surprised to find a BOD of 40 mg/L and a COD of 150 mg/L in the same sample, indicating clear sewage mixing.
